New heads of clinics and departments

The new year brought changes in the management of several departments and clinics. We would like to introduce you the new heads of departments and heads of clinics.
From 1 January 2022:
Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics – doc. MUDr. Jiří Presl, Ph.D.
Doc. Presl is a graduate of the programme General Medicine of our Faculty. In 2013 he was awarded the academic title Ph.D. in Gynaecology and Obstetrics. Since 2002 he has worked as a doctor at the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of the Faculty of Medicine and the University Hospital in Pilsen and since 2013 as the head of the postoperative care unit. At the Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen he has been assistant professor since 2011 and associate professor since 2020. In clinical and research work he specializes in gynaecological malignancies, their diagnosis, advanced operational techniques, treatment monitoring and postoperative follow-up, especially using tumor markers.
Department of Clinical Biochemistry and Haematology - MUDr. Daniel Rajdl, Ph.D.
MUDr. Daniel Rajdl is a graduate of our Faculty – programme General Medicine and doctoral study programme Biochemistry and Pathobiochemistry. Since 2001 he has worked as doctor and assistant professor at the Department of Clinical Biochemistry and Haematology of the Faculty of Medicine and the University Hospital in Pilsen. In 2010 he has become the deputy head for education and science. As an external member of the Dean’s collegium, he focuses on accreditations and assessment of quality of study. He is also a coordinator and a methodology specialist of the e-learning team of the Faculty and of the post-gradual educational portal @postudium.
Department of Anatomy: prof. MUDr. Jiří Ferda, Ph.D.
Prof. Jiří Ferda graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen in 1994 and started to work as a doctor at the Radiodiagnostic Clinic of the Faculty of Medicine and the University Hospital in Pilsen. On 1 April 2005 he became the deputy head for science, research and education. In June 2013 he was awarded professorship in Radiology. In 2009 the Department of Imaging Methods was established as a result of the merger of the Radiodiagnostic Clinic and the Department of Nuclear Medicine. Jiří Ferda became its first senior doctor and his award of professorship in Radiology followed in 2013. He succeeded prof. Boris Kreuzberg on the post of the head of the Department of Imaging Methods in 2019. He is a top expert in the field of radiodiagnostics who introduced the method of hybrid imaging via PET magnetic resonance and the concept of molecular imaging in the University Hospital in Pilsen and in the whole republic. For a long time he has dealt with methods of non-invasive imaging of heart and vessels using computer tomography. He is the Vice-Dean for education of the Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen, where he plays a significant role in the innovation of curriculum and modernization of teaching.
From 1 February 2022:
Department of Histology and Embryology – prof. MUDr. Mgr. Zbyněk Tonar, Ph.D.
Prof. Tonar graduated from the University of West Bohemia, the degree programme of Secondary School Teacher Training in Biology and Chemistry, and he continued his studies at the Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen in General Medicine and the doctoral study programme of Anatomy, Histology and Embryology. Since 1998 he has worked at the Department of Histology and Embryology, where he started as a laboratory technician during his studies. He was awarded associate professorship in 2011 and professorship in 2019. He has founded and headed the Laboratory of Quantitative Histology at the Biomedical Center. He is a member of interdisciplinary research teams primarily cooperating with the Faculty of Applied Sciences of University of West Bohemia and with University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna. He is engaged not only in quantification of histological findings and education of future experts, but he is also one of the initiators of innovations and development of the teaching at the Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen.
